Playing by the Book

  • I posted a couple of hands on these forums and, for the most part, people commented on how I wasn't playing position correctly.    I owe all of you who piped up to say something a  big, FAT  thank you.

    Here goes:

    THANK YOU!!  xoxoox

Ok, with that out of the way, allow me to explain.

After one such thread where I asked for advice ( here:
www.pokernations.com/forum/topic/15/index/22421 ) and my position playing skills were called into question, several members recommended I read Harrington on Hold'em.    I just happened to have this book on hand, but never got around to reading it.

Most of what the beginning of the book is about playing position, and how your position should determine what cards you play.   So, after reading only 50 pages I decided to put My new knowledge to the test.   The result:

alt I !  I  won the freakin tournament!!!!   And, let me tell you, it's been a while since that's happened.

Throughout the game, I felt as if I were in control, and my confidence grew.   It was actually quite exhilarating.   No longer did I overplay AQ offsuit from late position, and I played cards from early position than I usually didn't play at all - and won!   For some reason, I honestly felt I read the other players better, too.

Now, I'm sure this is beginners luck, and I'll go on to lose a lot, but this is a start, and a good one.  I'll keep you posted with my development as a poker player.   I'm hoping to go from mediocre/bad to mediocre/good, at the very least.      alt

    Thanks, guys!
